GLORY!

so my song of the day is...drum roll...

So Invisible Children is an organization that has been working towards seeing an end to the longest running war in Africa taking place in Uganda. Starting last Saturday thousands of people in 9 countries and 100 cities came out to protest the war and to spread the word. It's not right that this is just one of MANY human right violations, but we can speak for those who don't have a voice and see an end to it. Once the war is over there will still be a lot of work to do, but the war has to end before the children and people of Northern Uganda can move forward.

It's crazy that Invisible Children was started by three friends at the age of 20! and now seven-ish years later look at what they've done. CRAZY! Our generation is looked to be apathetic.. but this doesn't have to be the case.

If you go to the Invisible Children website there is a live feed and surrently they're listening to Sufjan Stevens, earlier they were listening to TV on the Radio.. so props to them.

Anyway, sorry for my rant.. Oprah is about to come on.. this explains the song of the day. So the final city to be "rescued" was Chicago and it was rescued by Oprah. The word will for sure be out now. Here's how they got her attention:

Peter Bjorn and John is this Saturday at the 930 club!

No te olvides de mi

Hello there. It, again, has been awhile since either Nanda or I have posted but fret not.

I have recently been in a Beirut phase. They were just in DC playing a sold out show. Beirut is one of those bands that you really have to take time to listen to their music in order to truly appreciate it. Here's a little taste of their wonderful sound:

In other news Coachella 2009 is happening as we speak. Looking at the lineup I don't think I'd know what to do with myself if I was there. I'm not one for music festivals, but I think I could make an exception for something like Coachella.

That wasn't the greatest up date, but we'll be back sooner this time. All I have left to say is that allergy season has arrived and it's no fun, but the weather has been so lovely that I can't complain.

Hasta luego

Don't You Forget About Me

well, it certainly has been a while. so many days--weeks even have passed. experiences changed us. the world became clearer/more confusing. but what matters, what is held constant, and what connects us remains ever evolving! that is, we may not have been blogging because we were too lazy/overworked/sleepy/drunk/without internet access/abducted by aliens... but, oh, the music never stops...there is so much goodness out there!!!

I'm specially excited about the new grizzly bear album that is to come out in may. this is old news, but its been leaked, but its low quality, so do it like me, and just sit and wait. In the meanwhile, you can scratch the itch with one of the songs from Veckatimest, Two Weeks... its sooooooooooo good (btw, you can also check out a spanking new grizzly bear v. Jay Z mash-up here. it's whatever, and Mr. Droste called it "unsolicited" on his twitter)

you just have to listen to this song, the quality is not the greatest... but whatever.

grizzly bear - two weeks

Also! man, on our show we've had some seriously good playlists! And I think I might just have to share it all with you. Seriously, I'm proud of the work that Sasha and I have done. Alright so here it goes... first you will have this week's playlist (so, it turns out that it takes a really long time for me to post these, so I only did it for the past two weeks, but I highly encourage you to check out our previous stuff too! http://wmucradio.com/station/shows/919) :

--This week's:
---t h e h i g h l i g h t s:

>>Bangers & Mash: I rediscovered this song this week, and I was hypnotized. I think it only speaks to Radiohead's amazingness that this song is a b-side. I mean, wow. love it.

>>Fake Palindromes: Beautiful. I remember when I saw Andrew Bird live, and this was one of the songs that really stuck with me.

>>Where In This World: The Notwist have been a recent find, I haven't gotten enough of them. Such complex, stunning music. And I think this song pretty much gives you a glimpse of the the whole album; that it is artful, melodic, ambient, and with a certain mystery that you can't help but to surrender yourself to it.

~Last Week's!
pay special attention to:

<<Black Leather Jacket: Screen Vinyl Image is local to DC and I'm loving them. If you live on the east coast, they will be around a lot, and hopefully i'll get to see them live soon. Meanwhile, this song blows me away. I think its so cool.

<<Evangeline: new Handsome Furs, so good.

<<1901: new Phoenix, and I can't stop listening to it! I feel like their cd will mark this late spring/ early summer

Yes. I know. I have a thing for Radiohead. I'm sorry I can't help it. Heck--I won't apologize, they are musical gods.

I hope y'all enjoy these playlists! And happy spring!!

I should be studying!

Soo um, it's been a while since I've made my presence known.

What better time to do that then when I should be studying!

This is pretty fabulous, you should CHECK IT OUT :)

Also, my obsession with Bon Iver is yet to cease. Exciting stuff: you can get some free live stuff off of their myspace blog. It's good stuff. If you didn't think it could get better.. it does.

In other news Animal Collective is doing a show at the Ottobar in Baltimore! It's sold out, though. If you want to go bad enough there is always a means of getting yourself inside. I can only imagine how amazing that show is going to be as the Ottobar is a pretty small place that allows for those intimate moments.

I will leave you with this video.. amazing!

Alright.. back to work I go!

Stop listening to country music! Its for your own good.

Once again I was proved right!

Thanks to science (and Brightest Young Things for making me aware of this article), I once again have the upper hand in my perpetual fight against country music.

According to some random scientific journal and most likely some questionable research methods, it has been shown that the greater the airtime of country music the higher the suicidal rates of Caucasians. So people the love of what is sacred--stop listening to country music!
